
In the 16th century, following a commission by Emperor Rudolf II, Flemish painter and merchant Joris Hoefnagel, famous for his Natural history illustrations, created illuminations for a work of calligraphy called Mira calligraphiae monumenta. Five centuries latter, Hoefnagel's art inspired a decoration that reinvents the same naturalistic essence.
